Runes are an ancient alphabet used by the peoples of Northern Europe. Each runic letter represents some object or concept. For example, Fehu was an ancient Germanic word for cattle. Since cattle had great value, certain other connotations came to be associated with Fehu; things like wealth and prosperity.
