Frequently Asked Questions

Care and Maintenance:

Clingstones necklaces are made with a durable cotton cord.  This cord, like most cotton clothing, will be most comfortable once it has been washed a time or two.  Wash the cord with soapy water and put it on wet.  Or put it on before your shower.

Clingstones necklaces look great for months or years, even with constant wear.  The stoneware pendant will never tarnish or fade, and is tough and scratch resistant.

Questions:

Q: How do I clean my necklace?

A: You should wash your new Clingstones necklace right away.  Wearing it in the shower works, or use warm soapy water.  The manufacture of the cord makes it somewhat stiff and scratchy.  Washing and wearing the necklace wet will help soften the cord, and the wet cord feels soothing as well.

Q: How do I clean my earrings?

A: Clingstones earrings are made with sterling silver hoops.  Clean with any jewelry cleaner made for silver.  Follow the instructions provided with the cleaner.

Q: How long should the cotton cord last?

A: Clingstones are so comfortable and durable that some people never seem to take theirs off.  With constant wear, the cord will eventually fade and wear out.  They often last a year or more when being worn 24/7.  If you notice visible frays, it's time to replace the cord.  Replacement cords are inexpensive and changing them is a snap.  Visit the necklace category to order cords separately, or email us at admin@clingstones.net about purchasing a new cord.

Q: What cord length do I need?

A: For a close fit, choose a cord one to two inches larger than your shirt collar size.  For a longer fit, generally a 24 inch cord places the pendant over your heart and a 36 inch cord places it over your diaphragm.  For custom length cords, email us at admin@clingstones.net

To determine your shirt collar size, follow these steps:  Use a piece of ribbon, string or fine chain.  Hold one end at the base of your throat and wrap it loosely around your neck.  A good point of reference is the dip in the top center of your ribcage.  Then measure the length on a yardstick.

Q: Can I adjust the length of my necklace?

A: Since everyone is different, it may take a little fine tuning to have your Clingstones necklace hang where it fits most comfortably and looks best.  Slack cord can be taken up by tying knots near the ends.  Each knot takes up about ½ inch of cord length.  Be sure to distribute the knots evenly on both sides of the clasp.  Having an odd number of knots (1 on side A, 2 on side B) won't pull the clasp off-center considerably, but having 3 on side A and 0 on side B will.  As long as the knots are uniformly spaced, they actually add to the look of the necklace.

Q: How do I replace the cord?

A: Remove the old cord.  Fold the new cord in the middle.  If the cord has brass satellite  beads,  make sure the beads are the same distance from the center fold.  Push this fold through the FRONT of the pendant and open it up to form a loop.  Then push the clasp through that loop and pull taut, making sure the satellite beads (if present) stay equidistant from the pendant.

Q: How can I view the status of my order?
A: Go to our Customer Service page and either enter the confirmation number or click on Account History to retrieve a list of all your orders.  Click the date of the order whose status you wish to view.

Q: What are your shipping costs?
A: Standard shipping in the U.S. is free.  For 2 day delivery, the cost is $4.60 to most U.S. addresses.  Final shipping costs will be displayed on the invoice you see before confirming your order.  For international orders, you can view an estimate of shipping costs by viewing your cart.  If you have a special request, such as receiving your order overnight, please email us at admin@clingstones.net to receive a direct quote on shipping charges.

Q: Why am I being charged sales tax?
A: Sales made over the Internet are subject to Missouri sales tax if both the merchant (Clingstones) and the customer (you) are both located in Missouri.  More specifically, any goods shipped to a Missouri address by a Missouri merchant are subject to the tax.  If you are not a Missouri resident, and we're mailing your purchase to a non-Missouri address, no sales tax is required or will be charged.
